Last night a Tesla Model S caught on fire in an unofficial body workshop in China. Responding to the situation, Tesla says that the battery pack of the car was damaged. Also, the 3rd party workshop failed to handle it properly.

This incident happened in Hangzhou. A passerby reported of smoke in the workshop. The local fire department promptly took control of the situation. They had to cut through the garage door to enter inside. The flames and smoke inside were traced to a Tesla Model S. The hood and meter box of the car were on fire. In the workshop, the Model S was on a lift. The shop closed for the day and it was left there.

Here is an image of the charred Model S and firemen handling the situation. The firemen took over an hour to extinguish the flames after

Tesla is blaming the non-official workshop for not handing the damaged battery pack efficiently. The American automaker always claims its electric cars are much safer than the IC engine vehicles.

We believe it is one of those singular incidents of an EV catching fire. As Tesla mentions it’s the damaging battery that led to the fire. Also, this incident is a good lesson for consumers. They must always repair their vehicles in the official workshops.
