When it comes to safety in cars, no one does it better than Tesla. Currently, the automaker is integrating the pedestrian warning system on to Model 3. This move is in compliance with the road rules in Europe and the US.

Basically, the electric vehicles have to emit a warning sound when going at 19mph. this aims to prevent any pedestrian accidents. As per NHTSA, all EVs and hybrids must install a sound-emitting device by 1st of September 2019. Tesla is complying to the regulations. From the 1st of September, all Tesla Model 3 will have the Pedestrian warning system on board.

This is what the US Department of Transportation has to say. All light electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids that weigh 10,000 pounds or less must install the PWS. At higher speeds, there is no need of this alert.

The PWS plays when the car is maintaining a speed of 19mph. It can be while moving in forward or in the reverse direction. The warning should emit through a speaker. This speaker is mounted on the front fascia. So, if there is any pedestrian nearby the car then they will be warned of the approaching car.

In the Tesla Model 3, PWS speaker is present on the underside of the front section. According to Tesla, soon the Model X and Model S will also get the Pedestrian warning system integration on them.
