French automaker Opel is all set to unveil the world’s first electric rally car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This is quite interesting as it’s a regular Corsa-e. It’s a production vehicle which will compete in the Rally Motorsport. This rally car has no separate name.
The Corsa electric rally car has 136bhp. It exerts peak torque of 191 pounds/feet. These specs are the same as the regular Corsa-e. However, this rally specific machine has a lighter design. It integrates roll cage and underbody protection. The driver gets a motorsport display with a data logger.
Rally Motorsport has always been popular. So, testing a regular machine on rugged tracks is a great way of experimentation. It will ensure the durability and efficiency of the car.
Opel will sell the Corsa-e rally car to 15 customers. These machines will take part in the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup. We may also get to see Opel’s rally car in German Rally Championship events. The automaker is also eyeing the European Junior Rally Championship.
A number of other cars will also debut at the Frankfurt Motor show. Hyundai will release its concept electric car named 45. The Corsa-e rally car will be available for sales. There is no exact date when it will begin. Probably that info will reveal at the Motor Show. World’s first electric rally car from Opel costs $55,000.
