The government of India has been taking serious steps to curb pollution. One of which is the promotion and spread of the electric vehicles in the country. Back in 2015, the Govt. introduced the FAME India scheme. It was undertaken by The Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises. This will enable the automakers to get incentive on their EVs. FAME is the acronym for Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles.
In this post, we will list out all the Indian electric vehicles which come under the FAME India scheme. Now, this is not a complete and final list. We will keep it updating as and when a new electric vehicle gets included under the scheme.
FAME scheme is following a two-phase extension. The first phase started in 2015 and continued for four years until the 31st of March 2019. Again the project was extended from 1st of April 2019 for a second term. the second phase will span for 3 years till March 2022. We have explained in details about the FAME scheme in one of our recent posts. We have interlinked the post below. You can check it out.

FAME Subsidy Eligibility Criteria
To be able to avail the FAME subsidy from the government the electric two-wheeler manufacturers must source more than 50% of the components from the local sources. This means the spares used in the vehicle must be manufactured in India. If the maker imports the components from outside of India, then they will not be eligible for the incentives.
As per the government notification, the electric two-wheelers are eligible for a subsidy of 10,000 INR per kWh of battery capacity. A humongous amount of Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated for the sales of electric two-wheelers.
You can find complete details of the incentive allocation top various electric vehicles in our previous post linked above.
There is a target to sell about 1 million electric two-wheelers by the end of March 2022. This timeline marks the end of Phase 2 of the FAME Scheme.
This is a huge target figure to achieve. However, the government of India is really efficient in this matter. Already it has cut down the taxation on the electric vehicles. It came down to 5% from 12%. This has been an encouraging move for electric vehicle manufacturers. The price of electric vehicles was cut-down as a result.
