Recently, a number of automakers have been stepping into the domain of electric vehicles. Now Harley Davidson is in the league as well. Yes, you heard that. The popular motorcycle maker has come up with an electric bike. This one goes by the name of Livewire. It will be available in India as well. The Indian unveiling event of the Harley Davidson electric bike will take place on the 27th of August.

Livewire has been under development for five years now. Last year at the EICMA Motorcycle Show, Livewire marked its entry. Previous month details regarding Livewire was released for the US market. This Harley Davidson electric bike costs $29,799 in the US. This converts to around 21 lakhs INR. However, the pricing of Livewire in india may be much higher. Of course, you have to deal with the price tag as it’s a premium bike.

The Livewire packs an electric motor of power output 78kW(104.6 bhp). A 15.5kWh battery setup powers it up. This Harley Davidson electric bike offers a torque of 116 Nm. Its speedo can touch 60 Km/h in 3.5 seconds. Livewire comes with other features as the ABS, traction control, cornering ABS and front-wheel lift mitigation.

India already has its local yet powerful machines like Revolt RV 400. There is also a sports bike Emflux One, which may drop in the Q4 2019. Again there is the upcoming bike Prana from Srivaru motors which is scheduled for 2019 release. So, will Harley’s entry in the electric segment affect the electric commuter and sports market competition.? We don’t think so. Harley is a brand name catering to a different breed of premium bike enthusiasts. The cost will be a major and deciding factor for Livewire. However, it’s good to see india is becoming a hotbed for electric vehicles. It is making way for Indian as well as popular international automakers to produce EVs.
