Hyundai Kona Electric vehicle is the battery and electricity powered SUV from the Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai. It released in 2018 in South Korea later spreading to Europe. Currently, in 2019, it has also marked its debut in the Indian market.
The Hyundai Kona Electric comes in two variants as per the battery capacity, 39 kWh and 64 kWh. It comes with adaptive cruise control, multi-functional steering wheel powered with Bluetooth. It has a fully digital instrument console with 17.77 cm touchscreen interface. It is fully compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It packs automatic temperature control, electric parking brake, electric sunroof, etc.
A new Hyundai Kona 64 kWh will cost $36,450. If anyone wants to opt for a used Kona EV, then it will cost them $42,815.
General
The Hyundai KONA is a company first compact electric SUV for the US market. It is primarily for the environment conscious consumers but not compromising on the premium built and catchy looks. The 2019 Kona will be produced in Ulsan, Korea and will be available in various markets towards the start and mid of 2019. if we talk about the US, it will be initially available in California and later in the North-eastern and the western US.
The Making
KONA comes with a futuristic and powerful built. It has longer wheelbase with shorter overhangs while providing ease of control. The consumer can experience superior driving stability at a higher speed. It has cool LED lighting on the headlamps as well as on the tail lamps.
Though KONA EV has a lower rooftop, there is enough room inside the vehicle. It has shift-by-wire drive controls with support from center console bridge element. It also provides convenient open-access to lower storage bin.
Like any modern-day SUV, it comes with audio/navigation display. It has a floating 8-inc navigation touchscreen that includes support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
OutPut
The Hyundai Kona makes use of a highly efficient 150kW permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor. It provides a 291 lb./ft of torque distributed on the front wheels. The inverter has a power density of 25.4 kVA per liter. The EV makes use of a liquid-cooled battery and operates 356 volts. The total battery weight is less than 1000 pounds.
Safety
The car is made up with Advanced High Strength Steel which ensures maximum safety. To ensure better safety, it packs features such as lane assist,blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, parking distance warning and forward collision-avoidance assist, Pedestrian Detection.
Charging
Hyundai KONA makes use of Level-II onboard charging system capable of a 7.2 kW rate of charge for fast charging. 80% of charge can be achieved in 54 minutes 110kW Level-3 Quick Charger. There is also an option for charging 7.2 kW level-II charger that may take up to 10 hours to get the car fully charged.
