Description
The Chevrolet Spark EV is a front-wheel-drive, four-passenger, five-door all-electric hatchback. The production version was unveiled at the November 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. Within the framework of GM’s vehicle electrification strategy, the Spark EV was the first all-electric passenger car marketed by General Motors in the U.S. since the EV1 was discontinued in 1999. The Spark EV was discontinued in December 2016, when Chevrolet began selling the Bolt, which has a much longer range. The Chevrolet Spark EV 21 kWh has now been discontinued.
Performance
This hatchback EV makes use of a 97 kWh motor while providing a torque of 542 Nm.
Later in 2015, the car was updated with a change in the drive ratio from 3.17 to 3.87 and torque reduced to 443 Nm (327 ft-lb).
Battery
This version of the electric car was powered with a 21.3 kWh Lithium iron phosphate battery from A123 Systems.
Charging
The Spark EV 21 kWh can be fast-charged to 80% of total battery capacity in 20 minutes using an optional CCS/SAE Combo Type 1 connector. However, the charging time will be of seven hours if a dedicated 240-volt charging station is used. Again, it will take 17 hours to get full-charge while using a standard household 120-volt outlet.
Features
The Spark 21 kWh has a simple dashboard’s clean lines with a unique instrument cluster and the large central touchscreen interface. It flaunts simple graphics which provides the battery pack’s state of charge and remaining driving range. The Spark EV is very safe to drive with abundant safety mechanisms such as antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, rear-seat side airbags, and front-seat knee airbags.
Price
The Chevrolet Spark 21 kWh model has now been discontinued. If you want to buy a used Spark 21kWh, then it will cost you around $5,997.
