Domino’s US is all set to introduce an eco-friendly pizza delivery system. It will make use of the electric bicycle for delivering pizza. Recently, they undertook a pilot program to test the e-bikes for pizza delivery. This program was carried out in the markets like Florida, Texas and New York.

The test program was successful. Domino’s observed a faster delivery rate and higher customer satisfaction with the e-bike delivery. Most importantly, there was no expense on the fuel. The company is using modified RadCity Step-Thru bikes for delivery.

The food chain giant will soon prepare a complete fleet of electric bicycle pizza delivery. Even the delivery staff also finds the use of electric bike more feasible.

According to Domino’s these e-bikes can cover up to 45-60 kilometers on a full battery charge. They have a top speed of 32 km/h. The custom bikes come with soft cargo areas. There is insulation on both front and rear cargo section. This section can house pizza bags, drink, and cutleries, etc. One electric bike is capable to hold 12 large pizzas. The electric bikes also pack safety features for the rider. It has reflective lights on the front and rear ends.

Domino’s idea of embracing the sustainable mode of vehicles for food delivery is really impressive. We may soon see other food joints follow this idea. Overall it will contribute to minimizing pollution to a great extent.
