Vehicles running without Petrol and diesel are no more limited to concepts and sci-fi movies. It has become a reality in most parts of the world with the launch of electric vehicles. There are dedicated companies like Tesla that are producing their own electric cars. There are also other popular brands that are famous for their IC engine based cars are busy producing electric vehicles. Speaking of which Hyundai motors have come up with the first electric SUV in India, the Kona Electric.

Electric SUV in India

The SUV has now made its way into India as the country’s first-ever electric-powered SUV. It claims to travel up to 452 kilometers with a single session of charge. This range has been certified by ARAI.

Hyundai Kona: First electric SUV in India 

The new Hyundai electric SUV sports LED headlamps and LED tail light. It comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and rear spoiler. Also, the vehicle comes with a multi-functional steering wheel powered with Bluetooth control. It has a fully digital instrument console with 17.77 cm touchscreen interface. It is fully compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Being the luxury segment of vehicles, it packs automatic temperature control, electric parking brake, electric sunroof. The electric vehicle will be available in four different color schemes. It includes Marina Blue, Phantom Black, Polar White, and Typhoon Silver.

Hyundai Kona Electric, the first electric SUV in India comes with 3 years of warranty and 3-years of on-road assistance. The battery has a warranty of 8 -years/1-6 lakh km. Along with that, Hyundai will provide 24*7 roadside assistance and vehicle charging support.

Charging Process

Hyundai provides two chargers a 7.2kW AC wall box charger and a 2.8kW portable charger. With the 7.2kW AC charger Kona will take a little over 6 hours to charge completely.

However, if the consumer opts for the 2.8kW portable charging, the car will take up to 19 hours to fully charge up.

Pricing

As it happens with any other premium class electric vehicles, Kona electric which is the first electric SUV in India is quite pricey. It comes at a cost of 25.30 Lakhs INR which is its ex-showroom price. So, if we consider its on-road costs, the price tag of Kona will cross over 30 Lakhs INR. So, this vehicle is not exactly for a budget-conscious buyer. 

Maybe later Hyundai will bring more affordable eco-friendly vehicles for the common masses. Hyundai may be the first in India to launch an electric SUV, but it is not the only one. It will butt heads with the products of Mahindra and which are already have a good presence in the market.
