There’s no stopping for Volkswagen when electric vehicles are on continuous production. Volkswagen starts construction for its new electric vehicle production facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. If everything goes as per the company’s planning then North America will have one more electric vehicle assembly base. Volkswagen plans to start producing electric vehicles in its North American assembly base by the end of 2022.
Addressing the media, the company’s president and CEO Scott Keogh says this is a big moment for Volkswagen and time for celebration. Mr. Scott also said that the expansion of local production leads the company’s foundation towards sustainable growth in the United States. At the same time, Scott Keogh says electric vehicles are the future of mobility and people’s favorite Volkswagen will produce them for millions of people and not for millionaires.
Earlier this month, Volkswagen has already started production for its long-range electric vehicles in Zwickau, Germany. Soon the company will roll out assembly across the world including Foshan and Anting in China in 2020. Volkswagen also confirms that it will be rolling out these long-range vehicles in the German cities of Hanover and Emden by the end of 2022. Chattanooga will be then become the hub for EV manufacturing in North America – the company confirms.
How Much Does Volkswagen Invest in Electric Vehicles Manufacturing Site Prep?
Reports show Volkswagen has made somewhere around $800 million in the Chattanooga facility which will create additional 1000 jobs here. The production of ID. CROZZ model will first to receive assembling in Zwickau. On the other hand, the production same model vehicles will begin by 2022 in Volkswagen’s Chattanooga facility – Mr. Scott said.
The expansion occurs in 564,000 Sq Ft where the company will assemble both internal combustion engine vehicles and battery electric vehicles. The company also reveals that it plans to build a 198,000 Sq Ft for assembling battery packs for electric vehicles at its Chattanooga site.
Starting of New High-Tech Processes
The company appoints Tom Du Plessis as the CEO of Volkswagen, Chattanooga. When asked what Mr. Tom expects from this project, he said the expansion points towards the starting of a new high-tech process in the plant. The hiring process will start in early 2020. As a result, they can achieve the organization’s mission in the coming days.
There’s a huge opening and the company basically needs people with good experiences. The positions the company is looking for include supervisors, specialists and a variety of engineers specializing in electrical, software, mechanical, manufacturing, chemical, and quality – he said.
Electric vehicles and EV battery production require a whole new set of technical skills than that we currently use. Therefore, the company is taking every possible step to make the employees well-prepared for the upcoming challenges – Mr. Du Plessis said to the press.
At present, Volkswagen is producing midsize Atlas SUV and the Passat sedan at its Chattanooga facility. The five-seater version of Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport will soon hit the roads – the company confirms.
